Ep. 149 Heidi Franz

In another mobile installment Mark sits down with Heidi Franz and Joe Holmes to talk about riding and racing bikes. Heidi is a professional racer, currently riding for Rally Cycling. She describes her rapid trajectory to the pro ranks, from starting with a collegiate club where she earned the national omnium title twice as well as winning the national time trial and criterium medals, to guest riding for amateur squads and signing with Rally. She speaks about her experience at the 2020 Tour of the Ardeche and Tour of Flanders, training and racing through COVID in the US and Europe, maintaining "the bubble", the "disproportionate joy" of seeing a friend on the road while training alone during lockdown, and an off-season of eight 20-hour training weeks. Heidi graduated from Seattle University with a BFA in photography so they speak of that as well.
